In 1969, President Nixon wanted to cut funding to the new Corporation for Public Broadcasting in order to help pay for the war in Vietnam.  Mr. Rogers went to DC to speak at a hearing chaired by John Pastore, the curmudgeonly senator from Rhode Island.
