There are moments of Baths’ “Maximalist” that remind me of The Depreciation Guild, The Avalanches, and Mylo. It also reminds me a lot of the remixes Pogo has done, although most of the other songs on Baths’ 2010 album Cerulean sound nothing like any of these other artists. Each song has its own idiosyncratic layer, and judging from Baths mastermind Will Wiesenfeld’s past work with [Post-foetus] and Geotic, this should come as no surprise.
From AllMusic:
[Will Wiesenfeld] began recording his own music in his early teens, but found his true inspiration after discovering Björk’s music. Wiesenfeld taught himself guitar, contra bass, and viola and developed a quirky, layered production style, mixing sounds like clicking pens and running water with electronics and live instruments.
On a side note, I propose this new theory in music: When traced, every contemporary artist’s musical influence must, at one point, pass through Björk.
